About the Position

This role is an integral part of the Banking and Financial Institutions Division's examination team, evaluating financial institutions for safety and soundness on behalf of the State of Montana.

As an examiner, you will be responsible for gathering and analyzing financial institution data to:

  • Assess their financial and operational condition.
  • Assess their adherence with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Inform, support, and develop recommendations and conclusions using technical writing.

Key Responsibilities

Examiners work closely with colleagues and management teams at financial institutions across the state to achieve positive regulatory outcomes. This includes:

  • Traveling on-site to banks and credit unions for examination and training purposes.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to complete a variety of projects.
  • Participating in a well-established community of practice to learn and grow.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience in banking or a related field (not required but preferred).
  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in business administration, banking, finance, accounting, or a related field (or acceptable experience in lieu of a degree).
  • Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered.

  • Knowledge of basic principles and practices of banking, business administration, accounting, and auditing.
