Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Building Compliance Inspector is tasked with evaluating construction projects to ensure adherence to relevant building codes, regulations, and standards. This role is vital for maintaining public safety, confirming structural soundness, and promoting high-quality construction practices throughout the building lifecycle. The inspector may be required to respond to disaster situations, necessitating deployment to affected areas within a specified timeframe.

Key Duties:

  • Inspection Coordination: Organize and oversee inspections at various construction phases, including foundational, framing, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and final assessments, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Perform detailed inspections to confirm that construction activities meet building codes, zoning laws, fire safety standards, and other pertinent regulations.
  • Plan Evaluation: Analyze construction documents, blueprints, specifications, and permit requests for accuracy and compliance before inspections are conducted.
  • Quality Control: Evaluate the quality of construction work, materials, and methods, identifying any deficiencies or deviations from approved plans, and suggesting corrective measures.
  • Safety Oversight: Assess construction sites for potential safety risks, ensuring compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and the implementation of necessary safety protocols.
  • Documentation: Record inspection results, observations, and violations using standardized forms and maintain comprehensive records of inspections and enforcement actions.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Effectively communicate inspection outcomes and recommendations to contractors, builders, architects, and other relevant parties, facilitating collaboration to resolve compliance issues.
  • Enforcement: Issue necessary orders and citations for non-compliance, following up to ensure timely resolution of any violations.
  • Public Guidance: Assist property owners and developers with inquiries regarding building codes, permit processes, and compliance requirements.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated on changes in building regulations, construction methods, and industry best practices through ongoing education and training.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years in a related field, with significant experience in construction, building inspection, or code enforcement.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of building codes and safety regulations, excellent observational skills, and effective communication abilities.
  • Certifications: Preferred certification as a Building Inspector or Construction Inspector from a recognized organization.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to travel and work in challenging conditions, including disaster-affected areas.
