Job Summary

This is a skilled technical position that involves operating surveying instruments and related processing devices required for field survey operations. The successful candidate will work under general supervision and be responsible for setting up and operating total stations, theodolites, and transits to establish horizontal control, locating existing lines, and creating construction and survey baselines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate surveying instruments to establish horizontal control and locate existing lines.
  • Create construction and survey baselines.
  • Determine the relationship of various surface features to each other by means of horizontal and vertical measurements.
  • Operate levels to establish elevations for vertical control, construction layout, and to complete bench loops to establish and verify benchmark elevations.
  • Operate a data collector in conjunction with total station while performing as-built, topographic, boundary traverse, cross-section, and construction layout surveys.
  • Act as survey party chief for designated periods of time and supervise Survey Technician I.
  • Attend work on a continuous and regular basis.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Two years of experience in land survey work or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.
Working Conditions

Work may require performance of tasks outdoors under varying climatic conditions.

Selection Factors
  • Knowledge of techniques and practices of land surveying.
  • Knowledge of mathematics through the level of trigonometry and a working knowledge of data processing hardware and software.
  • Ability to perform as survey instrument person operating and maintaining varied equipment.
  • Ability to keep records of measurements and readings taken and reduce survey notes.
  • Ability to interpret specifications, maps, technical drawings, and manuals in performing survey operations and adapting to new equipment and techniques.
