About the Role

Vets Hired is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to fill the position of Police Officer Entry Level. As a member of our team, you will play a critical role in maintaining public safety and upholding the law in our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enforce state and federal laws, as well as City regulations, to ensure a safe and secure environment for residents and businesses.
  • Provide community-oriented police services, working closely with citizens to address safety concerns, crime, and neighborhood issues.
  • Preserve the peace through mediation, investigation, intervention, assistance, and arrest, utilizing all lawful means to improve the quality of life.
  • Patrol the City, identifying and responding to unusual and suspicious activities, and recognizing criminal activities and suspects.
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, investigating, documenting, and resolving citizen complaints, traffic incidents, crimes, and dangerous and illegal activities.
  • Interrogate and communicate with victims, witnesses, and suspects in cases, providing scene security for emergency services personnel.
  • Enforce traffic regulations and safety issues, apprehending violators, and ensuring public safety.
  • Investigate crimes and accidents, securing and processing crime and accident scenes, and identifying and collecting evidence.
  • Arrest law violators, transport and process suspects, victims, and prisoners, and complete detailed reports and required paperwork.
  • Testify in court as directed, and maintain VPD vehicle and equipment according to Department standards.
  • Assist and coordinate with other emergency services personnel, outside organizations, and businesses, and federal, state, and local law enforcement organizations.
  • Perform specialized functions in areas of expertise, including training, D.A.R.E., canine, and other special enforcement, assessment, surveillance, intervention, and investigative teams.
  • Maintain the integrity, professionalism, values, and goals of the Police Department, ensuring accountability and public trust.
  • Support the relationship between the City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff, maintaining confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of training and Peace Officer certification with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), and Basic POST certificate.
  • A valid California State Drivers License.
  • Must maintain Peace Officer certification with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), and Basic POST certification.
  • Participation in and successful completion of a minimum of 19 weeks of Field Training.
