Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Police Officer Trainee. As a Police Officer Trainee, you will be responsible for performing a variety of administrative and records management duties, assisting the public at the front counter, and controlling access to the Police building or section.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of administrative and records management duties, including maintaining, updating, and modifying files, lists, and other material.
  • Assist the public at the front counter, providing information relating to departmental activities, answering questions, and directing the public to appropriate resources.
  • Control access to the Police building or section, including operating security systems and monitoring CCTV cameras.
  • Answer phones and radio calls, and respond to emergency situations as needed.
  • Operate business office machines, computers, and compile data and prepare reports.
  • Assign case numbers, maintain, update, and modify files, lists, and other material.
  • Open, process, and distribute mail, and send and receive teletype messages.
  • Assist sworn officers in the field with traffic control, perform ride-alongs, and assist in collecting information.
  • Participate in DUI checkpoints and other community policing initiatives.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  • Current enrollment in a recognized college with a minimum of 24 semester units being accumulated annually toward a degree in fields leading to law enforcement.
  • Must maintain a 2.0 grade point average.
  • Must be between the ages of 18 and 21 at time of appointment.
  • Must possess a valid California Class C driver's license and comply with the City's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy during the course of employment.
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation, including a review of employment history, criminal conviction record, credit history, use of intoxicants and/or other controlled substances, and psychological evaluation.
  • Successful completion of the state-mandated CLETS training program as required by the California State Department of Justice within six months of date of employment and ongoing maintenance of CLETS certification.
