Role Overview

This position is integral to the New Shepard program, a reusable suborbital rocket system engineered to transport astronauts and research payloads beyond the Kármán line, the globally recognized threshold of space. By enhancing operational reusability, New Shepard plays a crucial role in our goal of reducing the expenses associated with space access. Your contributions will significantly influence the future of space exploration, demanding your unwavering commitment and meticulous attention to ensuring safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical evaluations and recommendations to enhance the repeatability and dependability of New Shepard.
  • Utilize data analytics to identify and address factors affecting reliability, while supporting initiatives aimed at improving production, testing, and flight reliability.
  • Lead investigations into causal analysis to thoroughly understand both direct technical causes and systemic root causes of reliability challenges and vehicle downtimes.
  • Collaborate with operations engineers, senior technical leaders, and maintenance experts across various Blue Origin programs, system components, and product lifecycles to promote design enhancements, better maintenance strategies, and process optimizations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related field requiring engineering, mathematical, or scientific coursework.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in an engineering and/or reliability capacity within an operational or manufacturing setting.
  • Proven ability to work effectively across multiple technical disciplines, including mechanical, fluid, and electrical systems.
  • Competence in interpreting engineering schematics, fluid diagrams, and electrical circuit layouts.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance and configuration management systems.
  • Strong analytical, causal analysis, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to foster trust and maintain positive, professional relationships with experts from diverse engineering backgrounds, while providing constructive feedback on safety and reliability issues.
  • Excellent written communication, interpersonal, and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Willingness to travel to our West Texas Launch Facility approximately once every six weeks.
  • Experience with software tools such as DOORS, CREO, Windchill, and/or JIRA.
  • Demonstrated experience in human spaceflight systems.
  • Experience in reliability/life test design, including failure modes discovery, life demonstration, and screening, as well as probabilistic risk analysis.
  • Knowledge of failure rate prediction for electrical components and circuit card assemblies.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like VBA and Python for process automation and analysis.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this role is competitive, and benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, a 401(k) plan with company matching, and an Education Support Program. Paid time off includes up to four weeks per year, plus up to 14 company-paid holidays.
