Youth Correctional Operations Supervisor

Make a meaningful difference in the lives of young individuals under the care of the Department of Juvenile Justice by fostering a collaborative, secure, and educational atmosphere within facilities. Offer guidance, support, and structure to detained youth by exemplifying and promoting pro-social behaviors such as patience, empathy, cooperation, professionalism, and respect. Oversee, direct, and instruct the tasks of subordinate personnel while acting as the shift supervisor for a designated unit or program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assume accountability for the custody, security, and welfare of youth by adhering to the policies and standard operating procedures established by the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice.
  • Maintain order and discipline by actively supervising youth and addressing inappropriate behaviors to ensure a safe and secure environment. Provide direct support, guidance, and structure with a focus on safety, personal conduct, care, and rehabilitation.
  • Supervise and organize the work of assigned staff members.
  • Complete necessary administrative documentation, including the preparation and upkeep of records, forms, and reports.
  • Develop and implement work and security protocols.
  • Oversee contraband searches and inspections, manage inventories, and maintain physical control of logs, keys, tools, weapons, and related equipment.
  • Stay informed of, comply with, and enforce all facility policies, rules, procedures, and regulations.
  • Assist in the training, selection, and orientation of subordinate staff.
  • Review youth information to identify issues requiring special attention.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A high school diploma or GED, along with one year of experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer Sergeant (PSP222) or an equivalent role. Must obtain and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T Certification within the first six months of employment.

PREFERENCES:

Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

  • Current and valid certification as a Juvenile Correctional Officer by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council.
  • One or more years of experience in a Juvenile Justice setting.
  • Completion of one or more years of college education.

MILITARY SALARY INCREASE INCENTIVES:

• 2.5% for one year of active duty service
• 5% for two years of active duty service
• 7.5% for three years of active duty service
• 10% for four or more years of active duty service
