Position Overview:


The Senior Financial Analyst will play a pivotal role in the development, assessment, and upkeep of the annual operational and project budgets, alongside the comprehensive capital improvement strategy and long-term financial projections.

This role will also encompass various initiatives within the organization, including the formulation of financial models for the Health Insurance Trust Fund and support with administrative responsibilities such as accounts payable and payroll processing, as required.

Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.


Reporting Structure:

The Senior Financial Analyst will report directly to the Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the capability to manage tasks independently while adapting to shifting priorities to fulfill the evolving demands of the organization.

Work will be conducted in alignment with established departmental and organizational policies, standards, and expectations.


Key Responsibilities:

Financial Analysis and Reporting:

Collaborate with the Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis on financial assessments, modeling, and business data analysis to support the financial programs of the organization.


Administrative Support:

Assist in the entry of weekly departmental payroll data into the financial system.

Support the processing of departmental invoices, manage bi-weekly vendor payments, print accounts payable checks, and communicate any discrepancies to relevant stakeholders.

Ensure thorough investigation of variances, identifying opportunities and risks to be communicated with finance team members.


Engagement:

Participate in departmental meetings and other relevant gatherings, both internally and externally, as well as various special events.

Perform similar or related tasks as required or directed.


Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Statistics, or a related discipline is required. A minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience, including financial planning and analysis, is essential. Experience in financial planning and analysis within a public company or municipality is preferred. A strong commitment to public service is necessary.


Skills and Competencies:
  • Proficient in data analysis, financial modeling, and analytical techniques.
  • Advanced Excel skills are required.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong emphasis on data accuracy and integrity.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, both written and verbal.

Work Environment:

Work is conducted in a typical office setting; noise levels are generally quiet to moderate. Essential functions are performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

Frequent interaction with other departments, employees, and vendors/service providers is expected.

Access to confidential departmental information requires the application of sound judgment, discretion, and adherence to professional office protocols.

Errors in judgment or omissions could lead to significant confusion and delays, adversely affecting the department's ability to deliver services and potentially causing public relations issues.


Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here represent the requirements that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Tasks may require light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of light objects. Extended periods at a workstation may be necessary, along with the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues.
