Position Overview

The Culinary Event Manager is responsible for showcasing culinary expertise by leading the banquet culinary team and overseeing all aspects of food-related catering operations. This role involves coordinating menus, procurement, scheduling, food preparation, and presentation for various catering events. The individual is tasked with ensuring a consistent, high-quality product that is visually appealing while striving to enhance guest and employee satisfaction within the established budgetary constraints. Compliance with sanitation and food safety standards is paramount.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a minimum of 4 years of experience in culinary arts, food service, or a related field.
OR

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or a related discipline; at least 2 years of experience in culinary arts, food service, or a related field.

Key Responsibilities

Ensuring Culinary Excellence
  • Determines food presentation standards and creates visually appealing food displays.
  • Participates in daily meetings to discuss culinary requirements for upcoming events.
  • Evaluates the quality of raw and cooked food to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Innovates and develops new culinary applications, ideas, and systems.
  • Ensures adherence to all Food & Beverage policies and procedures.
  • Estimates production needs based on event requirements.
  • Maintains proper food handling and storage practices.
  • Oversees the Banquet Event Order (BEO) process, including menu planning, pricing, and inventory management.
  • Plans and manages food quantities and plating for all banquet events.
  • Prepares and cooks a variety of foods for regular and special events.
  • Recognizes and promotes high-quality products, presentations, and flavors.
  • Implements procedures for food portion control and waste management.

Team Leadership
  • Communicates production needs effectively to team members.
  • Maintains open communication with staff to clarify performance expectations.
  • Fosters a culture of trust, respect, and collaboration among team members.
  • Monitors employee productivity and performance levels.
  • Ensures fair and consistent application of property policies.
  • Identifies and addresses the developmental needs of team members through coaching and mentoring.
  • Leads shifts while actively participating in food preparation and service.
  • Serves as a role model for appropriate workplace behavior.
  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of culinary staff.
  • Manages daily operations and understands team roles to fill in as needed.
  • Utilizes an open-door policy to address employee concerns.
  • Employs strong interpersonal skills to lead and motivate the team.

  • Sets and exceeds performance, budget, and team goals.
  • Develops specific plans to prioritize and organize work effectively.

Delivering Exceptional Customer Service
  • Empowers team members to provide outstanding customer service.
  • Enhances service quality by understanding and addressing guest needs.
  • Manages daily operations to meet customer expectations consistently.
  • Responds effectively to guest inquiries and concerns.

Human Resource Management
  • Conducts training sessions as necessary.
  • Ensures staff are cross-trained to support operational needs.
  • Implements disciplinary procedures in accordance with company policies.
  • Participates in training staff on menu items and preparation techniques.
  • Reviews staffing levels to meet service and operational requirements.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Analyzes information to identify the best solutions to challenges.
  • Participates in relevant meetings and discussions.
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors and team members.
