About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Dietary Assistant to support our food service operations at Huntsville Healthcare. As a Dietary Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our kitchen and providing exceptional service to our residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation and serving of meals, ensuring that all food is prepared and presented in a safe and appealing manner.
  • Follow established safety procedures and protocols to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
  • Sort and deliver diet/tray cards to residents, ensuring that all dietary needs are met.
  • Set up and clear dining areas, including tables, chairs, and serving utensils.
  • Wash and sanitize dishes, pots, and pans, and store them in a clean and organized manner.
  • Assist in the maintenance of kitchen equipment and supplies, including cleaning and sanitizing refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers.
  • Participate in daily cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, and dusting.
  • Assist in the preparation of meals, including cooking, chopping, and portioning ingredients.
  • Follow established hand washing techniques and procedures to maintain a clean and hygienic environment.
  • Report any incidents or accidents to the Certified Dietary Manager.
  • Attend departmental and staff meetings as directed.
  • Participate in in-service training and education programs to maintain knowledge and skills.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent, preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions at a level necessary to accomplish the job.
  • Ability to lift 20-25 lbs. frequently and 50-60 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to stand and walk short distances 7-8 hours per day.
  • Knowledge of supplies and equipment used by the department and the care of this equipment.
  • Ability to work safely and cautiously to avoid cuts and burns while working with kitchen equipment and to avoid falls while working on or near wet and slippery floors.
  • Ability to mop and work with standard cleaning chemicals.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of modified diets.
  • Knowledge of cooking.
  • Ability to cooperate and work well with fellow employees.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with residents, staff, family members, visitors, government agencies' personnel, and the general public.
  • Ability to adhere to the dress code of the Dietary Department.
  • Ability to meet all local health regulations and pass pre/post-employment physical exam if required.
Physical and Sensory Requirements

The Dietary Assistant will be required to walk, sit, stand, reach, stoop, bend, lift, grasp, push, and pull, and have fine-hand coordination. The ability to hear and respond to overhead pages is also required. The Dietary Assistant must be able to withstand heat while working around stoves and ovens, and able to withstand cold while working in/around refrigerators and freezers. The ability to apply training and in-service education provided is also required. The Dietary Assistant must present a neat, clean, professional appearance and demonstrate a positive approach with employees and residents.
