PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

The Part-Time VISTA Support Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Director of Civic Engagement to oversee a team of VISTA members. Together, they will develop a project aimed at benefiting both City Colleges and local organizations. VISTA members will play a crucial role in achieving project goals through various activities, including establishing partnerships with local entities, fostering community among stakeholders, and creating a support network between CCC students and local organizations to promote a culture of volunteerism.

This is a temporary, grant-funded part-time position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Cultivates partnerships with local leaders and organizations that are attuned to the needs of community members lacking postsecondary education; builds connections with both non-profit and for-profit entities to facilitate volunteer opportunities for CCC students, staff, and faculty. Collaborates with academic and support services at City Colleges to effectively communicate available resources and academic programs to community residents. Develops a reporting model to track service hours completed by CCC students, staff, and faculty throughout the year; prepares end-of-semester reports to illustrate the impact on the community and volunteers, aligning with CCC student experience outcomes. Organizes volunteer initiatives throughout the semester to nurture a culture of volunteerism among students, staff, and faculty (e.g., MLK Day of Service, Juneteenth Day of Service, CCC Day of Service). Designs service-learning opportunities in collaboration with faculty and staff across the district. Identifies the skills, abilities, and experiences desired in volunteer mentors; creates detailed volunteer task descriptions that outline qualifications, responsibilities, benefits, time commitments, and other expectations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Associate's degree from an accredited institution. Two years of experience in a non-profit or community-based organization. A combination of education and experience may be considered based on the applicant's qualifications. Familiarity with community neighborhoods in Chicago, especially those historically underserved. Understanding of the root causes of structural inequities, particularly systemic racism, affecting various communities in Chicago. Excellent communication skills. Strong organizational and time management abilities. Ability to perform responsibilities with a high degree of professionalism. Capacity to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment. A commitment to social justice and community involvement. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
