Nutrition Specialist for WIC Program Support
Our client, a network of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), is seeking a dedicated full-time Nutrition Specialist to provide essential support for their Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program.
This position is full-time and requires on-site presence during standard business hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and address the nutritional needs of patients, offering dietary options within the framework of WIC program guidelines.
- Implement Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HP/DP) initiatives for patients, staff, and the community.
- Provide both short-term and long-term nutritional counseling for patients and their families.
- Offer nutritional guidance to the professional staff within the health center.
- Organize and schedule counseling sessions as necessary for patient follow-up.
- Utilize electronic medical records (EMR) to communicate with referring providers regarding patient progress after each visit.
- Monitor patient progress through follow-up communications.
- Engage in case conferences with referring providers as required.
- Conduct HP/DP programs both on-site and in the community for patients and residents.
- Review educational materials for relevance and appropriateness.
- Develop curriculum objectives, goals, and evaluations for educational classes and programs.
- Coordinate outreach initiatives and promote nutritional awareness within the health center, community organizations, and educational institutions.
- Provide training for health center staff on the nutritional aspects of disease prevention and treatment, emphasizing comprehensive primary care and proper referrals.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of one year of relevant experience as a Nutritionist or Dietitian.
- Graduation from an accredited nutrition program with a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or Dietetics.
- Current licensure in the State of Illinois as a Registered Dietitian is preferred, or significant progress towards obtaining this license.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is advantageous but not mandatory.
