Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Early Childhood Education Professional to join our team at the Kern Community College District. As a Child Development Specialist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care and education to preschool children and infants in a child development program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and coordinate activities and instruction to promote the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of children.
  • Develop and maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment that supports the needs of children and families.
  • Direct the activities of Associate Teachers, CDC Assistants, volunteers, students, and interns to ensure the delivery of high-quality services.
  • Conduct regular observations and assessments to monitor the progress of children and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with families to develop and implement individualized plans that meet the unique needs of each child.
  • Provide training and support to staff members to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide high-quality care and education.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of children's progress, including health and safety information.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in early childhood education.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree from an accredited college in early childhood education or a related field.
  • One year of experience working with children in an organized setting.
  • Possession of, or eligibility to obtain and maintain, a Child Development Teacher Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
  • Completion of pediatric CPR and first aid training through an accredited or approved program.
  • Possession of a current pediatric CPR and first aid certificate.
  • Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment physical assessment.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment drug testing.
  • Clear criminal record check including fingerprint.
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Knowledge of early childhood education programs, practices, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of current best practices for inclusive early childhood education settings.
  • Instructional and tutorial techniques.
  • Requirements of maintaining a children's center in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
  • Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Health and safety regulations.
  • Principles and practices of personal hygiene.
  • Sanitation practices related to handling and serving food.
  • Basic First Aid techniques.
