Overview
Note: Kern Community College District continuously accepts applications for part-time, hourly faculty pools. This enables the division to reach out to qualified candidates promptly when a need arises without delay. Kern Community College District is inviting applications for part-time, hourly adjunct instructors. The starting pay is $60.00/hour; the hourly rate may vary based on assignment type and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula. For detailed information, please refer to the CCA collective bargaining agreement or your college HR office.

Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for delivering instruction across a comprehensive range of Physics and Astronomy courses.

This role may involve teaching at various campus locations, offering day or evening classes, weekend sessions, large lecture formats, distance learning, and employing diverse teaching methodologies. Additional responsibilities include: engaging in student recruitment and facilitating transfer program articulation for the Science department; ensuring subject matter relevance; developing and updating curriculum; utilizing computer and multimedia technologies; and participating collegially in departmental, college, and discipline-specific professional activities.

Essential Qualifications
Master's degree in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics

OR Bachelor's degree in physics or astronomy AND Master's degree in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics

OR - Equivalent qualifications. Certain combinations of education, experience, and accomplishments in the field may be considered equivalent to the stated minimum qualifications. Candidates who believe they possess such equivalent qualifications must submit an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form along with supporting documents. AND - A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Note: Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section). Any degree from a country outside the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by a recognized evaluation service.

Note: The candidate screening process will be conducted by a committee that reserves the right to limit the number of interviews granted. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview.

Ability to develop curriculum, including those delivered through various modalities;

Demonstrated ability to maintain subject matter relevance;
Ability to assess student learning outcomes;
Proficiency with computers and a willingness to explore new technologies that would enhance the program;
Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission;
