Overview:
Kern Community College District is actively seeking applications for part-time, hourly adjunct instructors in the field of Physics and Astronomy. This ongoing recruitment allows the department to reach out to qualified candidates as needs arise without the delay of a formal advertisement process. Applications will remain on file for up to two years.
Role Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will be responsible for delivering instruction across a comprehensive range of Physics and Astronomy courses. Responsibilities may include:
- Teaching at various campus locations and offering classes during day, evening, or weekend hours.
- Utilizing diverse teaching methodologies, including distance learning and multimedia technology.
- Engaging in student recruitment and facilitating transfer program articulation.
- Maintaining current knowledge in the subject area and contributing to curriculum development and revision.
- Participating in departmental and college-wide professional activities.
Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a Master’s degree in Physics, Astronomy, or Astrophysics, or a Bachelor’s degree in Physics or Astronomy combined with a Master’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Meteorology, or Geophysics.
Alternatively, candidates may demonstrate equivalent qualifications through a combination of education and experience.
Additionally, candidates should exhibit a strong sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students.

- Ability to support students with varying academic and vocational aspirations.
- Competence in developing curriculum across different instructional modalities.
