POSITION SUMMARY AND REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Residence Life is dedicated to fostering a secure and inclusive living-learning environment that promotes academic, social, cultural, and personal development. Our initiatives and services are guided by the department's educational priority of Respect and Responsibility, which serves as the foundation for our residents' growth during their time in the residence halls. Residence Life utilizes this educational priority to direct staff in planning and executing educational initiatives for all residents.

Residence Life is currently seeking a part-time Program Support Assistant, with immediate openings available. Preference will be given to applicants enrolled in full-time graduate programs at Penn State University.

A successful candidate for this role must exhibit and demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with effective administrative, time management, and problem-solving abilities. Preferred qualifications include a solid understanding of various competencies essential to the on-campus living experience, such as student conduct, building inclusive communities, fostering partnerships with key stakeholders, and designing student-centered residential facilities. This position is designated as a live-off role.

Key Responsibilities

The Program Support Assistant will report to various Senior Assistant and Associate Directors within Residence Life. The position may require up to 20 hours per week. The primary responsibilities of this role include:
  • Overseeing a variety of special projects through the central office
  • Providing administrative and planning assistance
  • Meeting weekly with the supervisor
  • Performing other duties as assigned
The individual in this position is also encouraged to engage in departmental and divisional professional development opportunities.

  • Enrolled full-time in a relevant graduate program, with priority given to students in the Student Affairs in Higher Education Program
  • Interest in and ability to learn about individuals different from oneself and to understand diverse ideas and beliefs
  • Must be able to contribute positively and creatively to the office's work
  • Interest in and enthusiasm for building and maintaining partnerships
  • Must be a self-starter capable of working with a diverse student population
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
