Lunar Transportation: Cryocooler Development

At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. As a key member of our Lunar Transportation team, you'll play a critical role in designing and testing cryocoolers for our Blue Moon lander product lines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and test cryocoolers for zero-boiloff applications
  • Conduct thermodynamic analyses and trade studies to optimize cryocooler design and performance
  • Effectively communicate analytical results and design changes to stakeholders
  • Work with structural and manufacturing engineers to optimize component design and interfaces
  • Contribute to cryocooler system and component testing, including pressurized cryogenic and non-cryogenic fluid systems
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, civil, aerospace, or aeronautical engineering
  • 2+ years' experience with fluid/thermal system development and testing
  • Knowledge of systems utilizing liquid or gaseous hydrogen, oxygen, helium, nitrogen, and water
  • Strong written and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3+ years' experience with fluid system development and testing in research/development facilities
  • Experience with cryogenic fluid systems, thermodynamic cycle analysis, heat exchanger design, and turbomachine design
  • Fluid and/or thermal analysis experience using Ansys, Thermal Desktop, or MATLAB
