Location: Philadelphia, PA

Contract Duration: 3 Months

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

Key Responsibilities

Patient Nutrition Management
  • Conducts comprehensive nutrition evaluations of patients in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Implements and oversees dietary interventions as directed by the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) to fulfill patient nutritional requirements.
  • Calculates and documents nutritional intake, assisting RDs with data collection as necessary.
  • Identifies patients requiring detailed assessments by RDs and ensures appropriate referrals.
  • Educates patients and their families on specialized diets and nutritional needs, facilitating outpatient follow-ups when required.
  • Possesses knowledge of nutritional products, including commercial supplements and specialized formulas.
  • Inputs and maintains outpatient dietary records for analysis by the dietitian.
  • Provides lactation and nutrition education, including the operation and maintenance of breast pump equipment.
Enteral Nutrition and Human Milk Management
  • Accurately prepares and delivers enteral feeding orders in a timely manner.
  • Understands the use of human milk and various formulas for patients across all age groups.
  • Exhibits a proactive approach in addressing concerns related to enteral feeding orders and equipment safety.
  • Assists in the development of educational materials and projects related to nutrition and lactation.
  • Participates in the management of human milk inventory and adheres to safety standards for its transport and disposal.
  • Complies with regulations and safety protocols governing enteral nutrition operations.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintains a professional demeanor, embodying the company's values and service standards.
  • Engages in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives as needed.
  • Documents productivity and other activities as required.
  • Contributes to the training of new staff members.
  • Ensures confidentiality of patient information at all times.
Professional Development
  • Collaborates effectively with healthcare team members.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and educational programs.
  • Maintains professional competence and registration as required.
  • Utilizes reference materials and current trends in dietetics to enhance clinical expertise.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education Requirements

Educational Background:
  • Associate's Degree in Nutrition or a related field accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, Preferred
Experience Requirements:

Professional Experience:
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in a hospital or WIC program, Preferred
Licenses and Certifications:

Required Certifications:
  • Dietetic Technician-Registered (DTR), Commission on Dietetic Registration, to be obtained within 9 months, Required
  • Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC), ALPP, Preferred
  • Serv Safe Certification (SSC), SERV Safe, Preferred
Skills and Competencies:

Essential Skills:
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare professionals, Required
  • Proficient in reading and writing English, Required
  • Basic understanding of medical nutrition therapy, particularly for pediatric patients, Required
  • Familiarity with nutrient analysis and proficiency in software applications, Required
  • Competence in the nutritional aspects of commercial supplements and enteral feeding, Required
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations, Required
  • Computer literacy is essential.
