Position Overview
In this role, you will consistently and safely deliver medical nutrition therapy, emphasizing pediatric patients and family-centered care.

Your responsibilities will include managing nutrition care based on evidence-based practices and clinical judgment to prevent, manage, and treat both acute and chronic conditions while promoting overall wellness.

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to enhance nutritional health and achieve optimal patient outcomes.

This position may involve working with patients with eating disorders.

Key Responsibilities
Patient Care/

Evidence-Based Practice:

Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments, determine nutrition diagnoses, and develop nutrition prescriptions. Initiate interventions, document outcomes, and coordinate patient discharge and transitions of care.

Assess patients for nutritional risks according to established protocols.

Design and implement medical nutrition therapy based on patient needs and clinical guidelines, including complex enteral nutrition and parenteral nutrition support.

Formulate evidence-based nutritional care plans and communicate these plans with other healthcare professionals as part of the healthcare team. Provide nutrition counseling and education to enhance nutritional status, prevent disease, and improve health and well-being. Make referrals to appropriate resources and collaborate with healthcare team members to evaluate, educate, and counsel patients and families on nutrition-related pharmacotherapy, dietary supplements, and food-drug interactions. Document care provided using standardized terminology. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Nutrition Education and Training:
Revise existing client education materials and conduct in-services for healthcare professionals, staff, and families. Engage professionally with colleagues and serve as a resource on nutritional matters.

Participate in the education and training of dietetic interns, nutrition residents, GI/nutrition fellows, medical and surgical residents, and other students as needed.

Assist in developing and updating standards of care, patient education materials, and clinical documentation.

Professional Development/Leadership:
Maintain productivity standards and demonstrate effective time management.

Keep accurate records of daily clinical activities, including scheduling and billing information, and complete documentation according to departmental standards.

Establish and pursue a personalized plan for professional growth, including participation in professional organizations, continuing education, workshops, and staff development programs.

Stay current with continuing education requirements for registration and licensure as mandated by the CDR and the Pennsylvania Department of State.

Education Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics, Food and Nutrition, or a related field (Required).
Master's Degree in Dietetics, Food and Nutrition, or a related field (Preferred).

Experience Qualifications:
Minimum of six (6) months of experience in Pediatric Medical Nutrition Therapy (Preferred).

Skills and Abilities:
Proficient knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapy for pediatric patients (Required).
Effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, families, peers, and the healthcare team (Required).
Ability to work independently in assigned patient care areas (Required).
Competence in counseling and educating others (Required).
Ability to perform complex calculations related to medical nutrition therapy (Required).
General knowledge of nutrient analysis and proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software (Required).
Familiarity with nutritional content, commercial supplements, enteral formulas, parenteral nutrition, and feeding modules (Required).
Consistently uphold CHOP ICARE Values and service standards.

Licenses and Certifications:
Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) within 6 months (Required).
Licensed Dietitian-Nutritionist (LDN) in Pennsylvania within 6 months (Required).
