Position Summary

This executive role is centered on overseeing revenue cycle operations, including billing, collections, and payment processing. The individual will lead a team of managers and supervisors, guiding the organization towards its strategic goals. Responsibilities encompass long-term planning, policy formulation, resource allocation, and making pivotal decisions to foster organizational growth and diversification in alignment with the entity's vision.

Role Overview

The selected candidate will provide centralized leadership for all Revenue Cycle functions within Tufts Medicine and its affiliated entities. This position is responsible for directing and implementing programs that ensure the efficient operation of the Revenue Cycle, thereby generating the necessary cash flow to support both operational and strategic initiatives. Key responsibilities include identifying, analyzing, and resolving Revenue Cycle challenges while fostering effective relationships with administrative, clinical, and physician leadership throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Business or Healthcare Management.

2. A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare accounts receivable.

3. In-depth knowledge of hospital and professional fee revenue cycle and regulatory requirements.

4. Extensive experience collaborating with payers, providers, hospitals, and physicians.

5. Strong understanding of accounts receivable resolution, cash flow management, billing, revenue enhancement, and patient service issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Master's degree in Business or Healthcare Management.

Core Duties:

1. Oversee revenue cycle activities to ensure cost-effectiveness and optimal collection rates.

2. Provide strategic direction for revenue cycle functions and their interrelations within the organization.

3. Communicate departmental activities to senior management regarding cash flow, profitability, customer service, and accounts receivable outcomes.

4. Develop and implement quality initiatives for continuous improvement within the revenue cycle process.

5. Negotiate and establish service level agreements (SLAs) aligned with organizational goals.

6. Manage relationships with third-party vendors as necessary.

7. Foster innovation and cross-departmental collaboration to enhance care delivery.

8. Model leadership behaviors to drive organizational alignment.

9. Direct departmental strategies to align with the overall business plan.

10. Pursue enterprise accounts receivable targets through effective communication and management.

11. Collaborate with key stakeholders to analyze trends in key performance metrics, guiding management decisions.

12. Work with payer relations to communicate performance trends and support contract negotiations.

13. Ensure accountability and effective management of the enterprise revenue cycle through appropriate controls.

14. Stay informed on regulatory changes affecting the revenue cycle to ensure compliance.

15. Participate in committees to provide leadership and revenue cycle expertise.

16. Develop a high-performance team through continuous assessment and development.

17. Facilitate communication and implementation of business processes impacted by regulatory requirements.

18. Ensure all departments meet service level agreements and performance goals.

19. Advocate for a performance-driven culture in high-level planning and decision-making.

20. Lead succession and development planning to achieve organizational goals.

21. Engage in strategic and long-range planning, integrating operational and capital priorities.

22. Analyze operations to evaluate team performance and identify areas for improvement.

Physical Requirements:

1. Professional office environment with standard office equipment.

2. Primarily a sedentary role with occasional movement required.

3. Frequent communication and information exchange required.

4. Ability to read computer displays and printed materials.

5. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
