Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of structural elements in new developments.
  • Serve as the lead engineer for threshold structures.
  • Execute threshold assessments, which include: CMU's, cast-in-place concrete, reinforcing steel, shoring/reshoring, post-tensioned cables, precast/pre-stressed components, and wood-framed systems.
  • Carry out site observations and collect samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Record site observations by submitting daily reports that detail construction activities.
  • Perform both destructive and non-destructive assessments on building materials, utilizing electric, pneumatic, and power-operated tools, as well as conducting ground penetrating radar (GPR) surveys, pavement evaluations, and concrete cutting, coring, and chipping.
  • Oversee inspections of structural steel and reinforcing steel, including welded or bolted connections on-site, as well as evaluating exterior insulation finishing systems (EIFS), waterproofing, roofing, and window installations.
  • Maintain daily communication with site contractors, fellow technicians, and project managers.
  • Fulfill administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is preferred. A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree, with relevant experience defined as Threshold Building inspection training under the supervision of a qualified Special Inspector.
  • Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license or Registered Architect status in Florida, or a Registered Florida Building BN License, or General Contractor certification is advantageous.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License is required.
  • The role necessitates the ability to carry equipment multiple times daily and occasionally lift up to 85 lbs to waist height.
  • Additional certifications are required, including:
    • For concrete inspections, certification from the American Concrete Institute (ACI) in concrete construction special inspection as per ACI's qualifications established on January 1, 2017.
    • For masonry inspections, certification from the International Code Council (ICC) in structural masonry special inspection as per ICC's qualifications established on January 1, 2017.
    • For post-tensioned inspections, certification from the Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI) in post-tensioning inspection as per PTI's qualifications established on January 1, 2017.
    • For structural steel inspections, certification from the International Code Council or American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) in structural steel special inspection as per ICC or AISC qualifications established on January 1, 2017.
