Position Overview:

The Senior Commercial Portfolio Manager plays a crucial role in conducting financial analysis, underwriting, and assessment of intricate relationships within the Commercial Portfolio Management sector.

This role involves receiving, analyzing, and evaluating business financial statements and tax returns, necessitating a comprehensive assessment of various factors.

Resolve moderately complex challenges and guide the Commercial Portfolio team to fulfill project objectives while leveraging a thorough understanding of the function, policies, procedures, and compliance mandates.

Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and mid-level managers to address issues and achieve organizational goals. Lead projects and teams or act as a mentor for less experienced team members.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage with the Commercial Lender in meetings with clients or potential clients.
  • Interview applicants to gather adequate information regarding their specific projects, financial requirements, and objectives to make informed risk assessments for the existing portfolio.
  • Assist the Commercial Lender in ensuring that all pertinent information is provided to the credit department promptly and efficiently for timely risk evaluations.
  • Monitor ongoing risk exposure, including regular reviews of borrowers and associated entities.
  • Work closely with credit administrators, analysts, loan processors, and other personnel to maintain a high standard of quality in each credit application.
  • Ensure that current risk assessments of each credit facility are accurate and escalate any credits where increased risk has been identified.
  • Maintain tracking, monitoring, and reporting systems for pending loans and collateral documentation, operational and financial documentation, annual loan reviews, and covenant tracking.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of state and federal laws and regulations concerning credit union compliance, including bank secrecy and anti-money laundering laws relevant to the position.
  • Foster a positive and engaging work environment for team members by promoting skill development, coaching for improvement, and inspiring others through your actions, ensuring high employee morale throughout the organization.
  • Provide fundamental and technical advice to management regarding strategies to enhance the Credit Union's positioning.
  • Stay informed about all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and economic influences, and keep senior management updated on any changes.
  • Review regulatory reporting schedules and compile information action reports for senior management as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative field is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of five years of experience in commercial portfolio management within financial institutions and extensive financial analytics in the banking and financial services sector.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Advanced understanding of the Credit Union's operational procedures and objectives; exceptional analytical, communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Mastery of both oral and written communication skills with the ability to think strategically.
  • Broad and deep knowledge of data management and analysis methodologies.
  • Strong grasp of compliance requirements, enterprise risk management, and a comprehensive understanding of the financial services industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while fostering collaborative relationships across the organization.
  • Strong business acumen and financial management capabilities.
  • Ability to transform conceptual information and emerging trends into professional, management-ready reports.
  • Solid understanding of technology and its role as a competitive advantage in financial services.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements:

Prolonged sitting throughout the workday with occasional mobility required. Corrected vision within normal range. Hearing within normal range, with devices provided if necessary. Occasional movements throughout the department for interaction with staff and task completion. Minimal travel may be required for offsite engagements.
