Position Summary:

ARC is in search of a meticulous and cooperative professional to fill the role of Research Analyst [Planning] within our Research and Evaluation Division. This position entails providing comprehensive support to the ARC Research and Evaluation team. Key responsibilities include assisting the Director of Research and Evaluation with various strategic planning, research, and evaluation tasks aligned with ARC's Strategic Investment Plan. This encompasses contributing to ARC's 5-year strategic framework, gathering and interpreting data to assess annual progress towards strategic objectives, managing diverse planning and research initiatives, and aiding in numerous research, data, and evaluation projects. The Research and Evaluation team engages in both internal and external work through commissioned contracts to outline socioeconomic conditions in Appalachia, analyze economic development patterns, identify geographic areas of need, and assess ARC's programmatic investments. The insights gained are utilized for ARC policy documents, workshops, events, press releases, research reports, evaluation studies, website content, and other platforms. This role reports directly to the Division Director.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience and knowledge in community or strategic planning principles and methodologies.
  • Proficient understanding of research methodologies, both quantitative and qualitative analysis, with familiarity in statistics and social sciences (planning, economics, geography, sociology, etc.).
  • Exceptional writing capabilities tailored for both technical and general audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and proficiency in various software applications such as grants management tools, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience collaborating with teams on research and evaluation projects centered on strategic and community planning.
  • Demonstrated public speaking skills and experience presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Solid knowledge of data collection and research analysis, with the ability to distill data into actionable research findings for varied audiences.
  • Proven project management skills, including the ability to create and adhere to project timelines and deliverables.
  • Core competencies include accountability, adaptability, collaboration, communication, and critical analysis.
  • Capacity to thrive in a collaborative setting, bringing an energetic and innovative perspective to work.
  • Bachelor's degree in regional and community planning, economic development, geography, public administration, or related fields.
  • Two to four years of relevant professional experience.
  • Successful completion and ongoing maintenance of a background security review prior to employment.
  • Willingness to travel (~25%). If travel is required, possession of a valid driver's license is necessary.
