Job Summary

The County of Los Angeles is seeking a highly skilled Licensed Vocational Nurse II to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare staff, you will provide exceptional patient care services in a hospital inpatient care unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care services, including administering medications, performing treatments, and monitoring patient vital signs.
  • Lead a small group of nursing personnel in the medication, treatment, and nursing care of patients in a medical, surgical, or rehabilitation ward.
  • Recognize the need for emergency care and initiate life-saving action in emergencies.
  • Set up, operate, and monitor electronic and/or mechanical equipment, such as croupettes, oxygen therapy, and suctioning equipment.
  • Administer medications by injection, orally, and other predetermined methods, while checking prescribed dosages against specified limits.
  • Provide bedside care, including maintaining personal hygiene, providing comfort and safety, and performing urgent housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Measure and record vital signs, record bed care procedures, treatments, medications, and nourishment provided and output.
  • Observe and report on manifest behavior and condition of patients.
  • Give eye and ear irrigations and instillations, clean, debride, medicate, and apply dressings to wounds using sterile technique.
  • Teach isolation technique to patients and visitors, and prevent the spread of infection using principles of asepsis.
  • Schedule and assign work to nursing employees, check to ensure completion, charting, and recording of assigned tasks, and check the quality in which tasks are performed.
  • Lay out appropriate instruments and supplies, and assist the physician performing medical and surgical procedures.
Requirements
  • Three (3) years of experience at the level of Licensed Vocational Nurse in a hospital inpatient care unit.
  • A license to practice as a Vocational Nurse issued by the Department of Consumer Affairs, California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers (CPR and AED) program certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional years of experience as Licensed Vocational Nurse beyond the Selection Requirements.
Working Conditions

This position requires standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching. It also involves working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
