This division also collaborates with healthcare teams to provide insights on prescribed medications, supplies, and related processes.

Position Overview

As a Pharmacist II within a hospital pharmacy system managed by Cardinal Health, you will be responsible for adjusting and dispensing medications to patients while ensuring the pharmacy operates in compliance with established protocols. Your role will involve verifying physician orders through the pharmacy information system, making necessary adjustments, and providing patient education. Additionally, you will oversee Pharmacy Technicians and manage compliance tasks associated with accreditation, narcotics control, and inventory management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize your expertise in pharmaceuticals to verify physician orders using the pharmacy information system, ensuring accuracy in drug type and dosage based on patient needs.
  • Supervise Pharmacy Technicians to maintain compliant and efficient pharmacy operations, reviewing their work in accordance with State Boards of Pharmacy regulations.
  • Adjust medication dosages as per established protocols, ensuring appropriateness for the patient's condition and concurrent medications.
  • Educate patients on the correct usage and anticipated effects of their medications, particularly for those on multiple prescriptions or newly prescribed regimens.
  • Manage narcotics and inventory control, ensuring compliance through regular documentation and audits of medication.
  • Communicate with nursing and medical staff to verify orders and gather additional information as needed.
  • Assist the Pharmacy Director in maintaining pharmacy accreditation and implementing operational improvements.

Qualifications

  • Licensed pharmacist in good standing.
  • Experience in inpatient hospital pharmacy preferred.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts as required.
  • IV experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with healthcare professionals and patients.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Manual dexterity for handling small objects and performing pharmacy tasks.
  • Proficient in utilizing multiple pharmacy information systems.
