Position Overview

The Clinical Laboratory Specialist plays a vital role in the healthcare system by conducting essential tests on blood and other bodily fluids. This position is critical for both diagnostic and research purposes, focusing on complete blood counts (CBCs), clinical chemistry analyses, and microbial cultures.

Work Environment

Our specialists operate within Biosafety Level 2 and Level 3 laboratories, handling a diverse array of pathogens that are significant to both human and animal health, including emerging infectious diseases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts laboratory tests and interprets results based on established techniques and principles.
  • Identifies and resolves technical issues, ensuring the proper maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Prepares necessary reagents and provides training to new staff and students.
  • Performs data entry and analysis, ensuring accuracy in test result interpretation.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Proficiency in operating standard laboratory equipment and employing various laboratory techniques.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Familiarity with software applications, including spreadsheets and advanced word processing tools.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with a strong aptitude for problem-solving.
  • Effective time management abilities, capable of multitasking in a dynamic environment.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited Medical Technology Program.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist from recognized bodies such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB).
  • A minimum of two years of experience in clinical laboratory testing, particularly in hematology, chemistry, and microbiology.
Additional Information

This role requires adherence to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment, and compliance with organizational policies. Weekend and holiday coverage may be required on a minimal basis.
