Overview

The Medical Imaging Specialist will deliver services efficiently and promptly to all patients across various settings within the department. This role includes providing imaging and fluoroscopic assistance during surgical interventions. The Specialist will execute tasks as outlined by hospital policies and procedures, assist with assigned administrative responsibilities, and maintain clinical skills through participation in educational and orientation programs. Collaboration as a team member within the facility is essential. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate closely with Physicians, Physician Assistants, or Nurse Practitioners to receive guidance for patient treatment, preparing patients for imaging procedures, and conducting X-rays in accordance with established safety protocols.
  • Ensure the safety of patients, staff, and oneself from radiation exposure by adhering to sound practices that meet or exceed industry standards.
  • Provide fluoroscopic assistance during surgical procedures, aiding the team in image identification, documentation, and recording.
  • Utilize Electronic Health Records (EHR) to log completed imaging procedures, manage order entries, retrieve and scan reports, and ensure accurate patient billing. Coordinate file requests and tracking with other departments.
  • Assist in the transportation of patients to and from the Imaging Services department as needed.
  • Obtain, develop, and process high-quality diagnostic radiographs as requested by medical staff.
  • Maintain all imaging equipment in optimal working condition, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, and report any malfunctions to the Supervisor immediately.
  • Keep the imaging room organized, stocked, and ready for use.
  • Provide training and orientation to new Imaging Specialists and suggest improvements for work processes.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned as required.

Certification Requirements

As part of certification requirements, staff must complete specific educational training and maintain compliance with best practices and protocols.

Regulatory Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program.
  • Current ARRT certification.
  • Current state licensure as required.
  • Current BLS certification or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
  • Preferred two years of experience in diagnostic radiology and competency in specialized areas.
Skills
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to perform essential functions that include frequent talking and hearing, as well as active engagement in standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
