About the Role

The Associate Director, Belonging and Inclusion for Cultural Life is a student-facing role that is essential in cultivating and promoting a culture of belonging, identity exploration, and inclusive community building for the diverse student undergraduate and graduate population at Babson College.

This role is responsible for creating and implementing programming that centers Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB); mentoring and advising individual students, cultural clubs, affinity organizations, and student leaders to promote and amplify diversity on campus; and partnering with Associate Director, Belonging & Inclusion for Spiritual Life to deepen the integration of the intersectionality between cultural and spiritual identities, along with any campus partners to expand the Babson core values.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and advise several student-led multicultural club and organizations; oversee program development; support the coordination and organization of student-led festivals, heritage month programming, conferences, workshops, and any other campus-wide event that celebrates and highlights diversity, inclusion, and belonging; provide direct student support, advocacy, and mentoring to enrich student well-being and success.
  • Facilitate campus-wide student-facing training that strengthens diversity and reinforces the common set of competencies that support diversity, equity, and inclusion work in partnership with the Associate Director, Belonging & Inclusion for Spiritual Life (i.e., new student orientations, leadership development workshops [Resident Assistants, Peer Mentors, Peers On Wellness, etc.], Babson Leadership Academy, and other student club and organization leadership training).
  • In partnership with the Associate Director, Belonging & Inclusion for Spiritual Life, develop, plan, and execute regular community gatherings including but not limited to Sunday Suppers, Community Conversations, and Peace Circles; execute consistent programming that integrates a holistic programming centered on inclusion, diversity, wellbeing, and social impact.
  • Co-chair, with the Associate Director, Belonging & Inclusion for Spiritual Life, the Multicultural and Multifaith Leadership Council consisting of identity-based student groups to guide and offer support of program initiatives; seek regular input relating to Belonging & Inclusion support resources; and promote dialogue on campus climate related to diversity, equity, and inclusion success and challenges as it relates to the student experience.
  • Serve a key member of the planning and administration teams of annual campus-wide events that promote and celebrate diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion, specifically for the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, DEIB committee, and Inclusive Excellence Summit.
  • Organize and coordinate welcome receptions and graduation send-offs for several groups, and partner with Assistant Director, Belonging and Inclusion for LGBTQ+ Life to facilitate Lavendar Graduation.
  • Oversee Multicultural Leadership Council identity-based student groups to guide and offer support of program initiatives, specifically those that support heritage month/week activities; seek regular input relating to Multicultural Programs' support resources; and promote dialogue on campus climate related to diversity, equity, and inclusion success and challenges as it relates to the student experience.
  • Manage funding request process through SGA and set budget for multicultural groups.
  • In partnership with the Administrative Coordinator for Belonging & Inclusion, oversee the management of the Diversity Suite including but not limited to space reservation requests, upkeep, and programmatic planning.
  • Provide advice and counsel to students on personal, academic, and community matters, refer as necessary.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required.
About the Team

The team will include the Assistant Director, Belonging & Inclusion for LGBTQ+ Life.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a Master's Degree and at least 6-8 years of related experience, including demonstrated experience working with multiple diverse populations and developing innovative programs for underrepresented populations; and a minimum of 3 years of experience managing staff and a budget.

The candidate will have knowledge of student development theory, program development, management, and evaluation; knowledge of student group advisement and organizational development; student and staff training development; student leadership program development; student development theory; knowledge of college policies, conduct processes, and legal issues in higher education.

The candidate will have excellent leadership, diplomacy, and team management skills with the ability to engage others through a participative process, while serving as a key decision-maker.

The candidate will have demonstrated strengths in public speaking and presenting; excellent interpersonal and written communication skills; knowledge of budget management; demonstrated excellence with program development, management, assessment, and evaluation; knowledge of current trends in student diversity and inclusion, particularly regarding higher education.

The candidate will have the ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, administration, staff, parents, and alumni; create an environment where direct reports have the freedom and security to take initiative; deal with complexities with resilience, resourcefulness, and optimism; and appreciate open-mindedness, creativity, and agility in thought and tactics.

The candidate will have the ability and willingness to solve problems independently; look for opportunities to take on responsibility; take thoughtful risks; and effectively act on new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.

The candidate will have the ability to anticipate and effectively handle change; demonstrate willingness to try new skills and challenging tasks; and be flexible in changing conditions.

The candidate will have strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).

Work Environment

The role requires work onsite 5 days a week initially, then hybrid at certain times of the year; the on-campus requirement is subject to modification based on organizational need.

Regular evening and weekend work is required.
