Associate Coach, Women's Basketball Program

Position Overview
The Associate Coach for the Women's Basketball Program plays a vital role within the Department of Athletics and Recreation. This position encompasses various responsibilities as designated by the Assistant Vice President for Athletics and Athletic Advancement or their representative.
Key Responsibilities
- Works closely with the head coach to oversee all facets of the program's management and direction, aligning with the broader strategic objectives of the Athletics department; assumes head coach responsibilities in their absence.
- Participates in the organization and coaching of practice sessions and competitive events as instructed by the head coach; imparts advanced skills and tactical strategies to athletes.
- Provides guidance to student-athletes on both general and sport-specific issues, facilitating referrals to appropriate support services when necessary.
- Monitors the academic performance of student-athletes; collaborates with academic advisors; acts as a mentor to assist athletes in resolving both academic and personal challenges; remains accessible to coaches and players during practices, games, and events.
- Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with Health Services, Residential Education, Student Activities, and Leadership Programs, among other relevant departments, to enhance program development and management for student-athletes.
- Assists the head coach in analyzing opponents to effectively prepare, plan, conduct, and assess practice sessions as needed.
- Supports the head coach in the recruitment of student-athletes, which includes reaching out to high school and preparatory school coaches to identify potential recruits, organizing recruiting trips, attending off-campus competitions to evaluate talent, and preparing and disseminating recruitment materials.
- Undertakes additional responsibilities within the department as required by the Assistant Vice President for Athletics and Athletic Advancement.
- Accepts further duties as necessary.

Qualifications and Skills Required
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum of 1-3 years of coaching experience.
- Compliance with Hepatitis B vaccination and OSHA training regulations; must maintain compliance throughout employment.
- Must obtain and maintain current certifications in first aid, CPR, and AED usage.
- Strong communication skills are essential.
- Adherence to all NCAA, NEWMAC, and institutional regulations.
- Contributes to fostering a culture of inclusion and belonging for all staff, student-athletes, prospective student-athletes, and stakeholders.
- Commitment to engaging with a diverse student body, staff, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to envision and propose innovative methods to enhance task performance; willingness to take calculated risks and embrace new initiatives and objectives.
- Capacity to anticipate and adapt to change; demonstrates a readiness to learn and apply new skills and tackle challenging tasks; remains flexible in dynamic conditions.
- Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
Work Environment
- Regular physical activity, walking, and exposure to various weather conditions are required; light lifting (up to 50 pounds) may be necessary.
- Availability to work during days, evenings, and weekends, and to travel for overnight stays as required for games, recruiting, conferences, and tournaments as directed by the Head Coach.
- Must possess a valid unrestricted U.S. Driver's License for at least one year and maintain an insurable driving record as determined by the institution's insurance criteria; successful completion of the institution's vehicle training program within the first 60 days of employment; annual review of driving records based on insurance criteria; and safety training as mandated by management.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Prior experience in collegiate playing and coaching is preferred.
- Familiarity with software and online platforms related to game analysis (e.g., Synergy, Hudl) and roster management (e.g., ARMS) is advantageous.
