Position: Materials Technician

Role Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will engage in both laboratory and field operations to support our clients' needs. Key responsibilities include:

  • Capturing photographic documentation of samples in both laboratory and field settings.
  • Preparing metallographic specimens for detailed analysis.
  • Executing mechanical and metallurgical testing procedures.
  • Conducting chemical analyses utilizing OES, XRF, and LIBS methodologies.
  • Performing corrosion assessments.
  • Compiling comprehensive reports detailing the outcomes of all tests conducted (mechanical, metallographic, chemical, and corrosion).
  • Completing Field Metallographic Replication (FMR) tasks at client locations.
  • Assisting with additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications:

Education:

  • Diploma or degree in Materials Engineering Technology, Welding, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field with relevant professional experience.

Experience:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience, preferably in a plant/refinery environment or heavy industry sectors such as Mining, Oil & Gas, or Petrochemical.

Certifications:

  • Professional memberships or certifications (API, NACE, ASM, AWS) are advantageous.
Physical Demands:
  • Extended periods of sitting and computer work.
  • Operation of hand tools and machinery (e.g., angle grinder, band saw, plasma cutter).
  • Ability to lift and manipulate heavy or awkward materials (up to 50 lbs).
  • Occasional outdoor work may be necessary, with exposure to varying weather conditions and challenging terrains.
Essential Skills:
  • Possession of a valid TWIC card (or eligibility for one).
  • Valid driver's license and completion of pre-access drug and alcohol testing.
  • Background checks will be conducted prior to employment.
  • Experience with hand-held tools and equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Familiarity with image processing software.
  • Knowledge of materials and processes is a plus.
  • Prior experience in oil & gas or petrochemical facilities is beneficial.
  • NDT certifications are considered an asset.
