Role Summary: The primary responsibility of this position involves conducting tests on plastic materials to verify compliance with established standards and performance metrics.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Technical Expertise: Knowledge of material testing methodologies and equipment, including tensile testers, impact testers, and thermal analyzers. Skilled in data analysis and report creation.
  • Educational Background: Associate degree or vocational certification in materials science, chemistry, engineering, or a related discipline. Laboratory experience is advantageous.
  • Attention to Detail: A strong commitment to accuracy and precision in testing and data documentation.
  • Problem-solving Skills: Capable of diagnosing testing challenges and independently resolving issues.
  • Communication Skills: Proficient verbal and written communication abilities for effective reporting and teamwork.
  • Continuous Improvement Mindset: Propose and implement enhancements to testing processes, equipment, and methodologies to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with engineers, scientists, and fellow technicians to facilitate product development, quality assurance, and research initiatives.
  • Physical Abilities: Capacity to handle and manipulate testing materials and equipment, with some lifting and manual dexterity required.
  • Work Environment: Ability to operate within a laboratory or manufacturing setting, potentially necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) based on materials and testing procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Material Testing: Execute mechanical, thermal, chemical, and physical assessments on plastic materials, including tensile, impact, hardness, FTIR, thermal analysis, chemical resistance, injection molding of samples, melt index, and density testing.
  • Equipment Management: Configure, calibrate, and operate testing apparatus in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ASTM Standards. Ensure all equipment is kept in optimal working condition.
  • Sample Preparation: Prepare plastic material samples for testing, which may involve cutting, molding, or processing materials to meet specified requirements.
  • Data Management: Diligently record test data, analyze outcomes, and compare them against required standards or specifications. Identify discrepancies and collaborate with the team to ascertain causes. Utilize relevant software to collect and visualize data.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of testing procedures, results, and observations. Generate reports summarizing findings and present them to engineering teams or management.
  • Quality Assurance: Assist in developing and refining testing protocols to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and consistency of results.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and regulations while handling materials, chemicals, and testing equipment. Maintain a clean and safe testing environment.
