Position Overview:
At CDM Smith, we are dedicated to addressing the intricate challenges that our water resources face today. Your expertise will be essential in designing innovative treatment solutions and conducting comprehensive environmental evaluations to uphold and enhance water quality standards.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop industrial pretreatment strategies and discharge limits in accordance with 40 CFR 403 for municipal clients nationwide.
- Conduct thorough studies and prepare technical documentation to safeguard Publicly Owned Treatment Works.
- Consult with POTWs during the formulation of Control Mechanisms and aid in the establishment of local regulatory authority.
- Review draft designs and reports to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, while adhering to firm policies and practices.
- Perform site evaluations as necessary to confirm that designs meet client and local requirements.
- Contribute to the firm's Technical Knowledge Management by creating white papers and technical design documentation for new or unique designs and studies.
- Collaborate with sales teams to prepare proposals in response to client requests for proposals (RFPs) and review drafts for compliance with regulations and best practices.
- Engage with current and prospective clients to discuss their design needs and attend industry conferences to enhance the firm's visibility and expand professional networks.
This role seeks an individual with strong communication abilities capable of providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff. The ideal candidate will leverage their experience to lead tasks on water and/or wastewater treatment projects, particularly with communities in assessing and developing industrial pretreatment programs and limits.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where EIT is not available (within 18 months of hire or promotion).
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally as required, depending on specific duties and project demands.
- Equivalent additional directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
