Position Overview

The Community Engagement and Volunteer Program Manager will oversee the comprehensive volunteer initiatives of Helping Hands Hawaii, focusing on the recruitment, training, and management of volunteers. This role involves fostering community relationships and organizing outreach efforts to enhance community service opportunities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and sustain a robust volunteer program that aligns with the mission and core values of Helping Hands Hawaii.
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships with community organizations to ensure clear expectations for service delivery.
  • Assess volunteer needs, skills, and availability to effectively match individuals with suitable opportunities, utilizing diverse recruitment strategies.
  • Collaborate with department heads to promote available volunteer roles and maintain ongoing communication with volunteers to ensure successful placements.
  • Organize community events and fairs to highlight volunteer opportunities and facilitate recruitment.
  • Schedule and assign volunteers to various departments, ensuring proper mentorship and supervision.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records related to volunteers, including background checks and performance evaluations.
  • Develop and uphold guidelines and best practices for the volunteer program.
  • Plan and execute volunteer recognition events to celebrate contributions and foster appreciation.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary to support the organization's mission.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, communications, business, or human resources, along with a minimum of one year of related experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with effective listening abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of utilizing technology effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and engage with various community programs.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and willingness to use a properly insured vehicle.
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Availability to work some weekends as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in public benefit programs, particularly with low-income or homeless populations, and/or in volunteer coordination within a non-profit environment.
  • Experience in program development, including assessing community needs and implementing effective solutions.
