About the Role:
The OASAS Primary Prevention Program at Hope For Youth is dedicated to equipping children, families, and community stakeholders with essential knowledge and resources to prevent substance and alcohol misuse.

This program employs evidence-based strategies and psychoeducational presentations to engage community members effectively. We are currently seeking a part-time Substance Use Prevention Educator to work 21 hours per week. This position is funded through a grant from the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.

Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver an evidence-based curriculum, "Too Good for Drugs," to elementary school students in designated classrooms.
- Facilitate and participate in community awareness initiatives within the local area.
- Empower elementary-aged children with skills to resist alcohol and substance use while promoting community awareness.

Essential Duties:
- Operate in accordance with established policies and procedures as outlined in the program's practice guide and employee manual.
- Comply with state regulations and uphold a professional code of conduct.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to support clients in achieving their goals.
- Develop, plan, and implement educational programs for elementary students using the "Too Good For Drugs" curriculum created by the Mendez Foundation.
- Initiate strategies to raise awareness about alcohol and drug-related issues in the community.
- Conduct surveys to identify alcohol and drug-related challenges and inform new prevention and education initiatives.
- Organize community events focused on gambling awareness and substance prevention.
- Attend training sessions and professional development opportunities as assigned.
- Participate in meetings as required.
- Apply agency-approved Evidence-Based Interventions tailored to meet client needs.

Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree or higher is required.
- A minimum of one year of experience working with children and adolescents is essential.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and electronic medical record systems, is necessary.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift/move up to fifty (50) pounds and escort children into the community, including navigating stairs.
- Capacity to restrain a child during a crisis and perform various physical tasks such as walking, standing, bending, and driving.

This part-time position offers an hourly rate of $22.00 for 17.50 hours per week, with flexible scheduling and occasional weekend work.
