Pulmonary Function Technologist Job Description

At Yale New Haven Health, we are seeking a skilled Pulmonary Function Technologist to join our team. As a Pulmonary Function Technologist, you will play a critical role in the assessment, treatment, and education of patients with respiratory problems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Clinical Application of Pulmonary Function Testing: You will perform various pulmonary function tests to aid in the management and diagnosis of patients, making recommendations to physicians based on analysis of results.
  • Patient Assessment: You will assess patients' pulmonary status employing basic skills, including reviewing medical charts, patient interviews, physical examinations, and interpretation of blood gases.
  • Equipment Calibration and Maintenance: You will calibrate and maintain equipment used for diagnostic testing, performing daily calibration and routine maintenance according to procedure.
  • Documentation and Written Communication: You will contribute to effective communication within the department through documentation of services provided, changes in patients' clinical status, and therapeutic objectives.
  • Self-Development, Professionalism, and Leadership: You will assume responsibility for maintaining clinical competency through continuing education, professional growth, and development.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited program of Respiratory Care, current active license by the State of Connecticut as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, NBRC Registration: Registered Respiratory Therapist Required, Certified and/or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years experience as a Respiratory Therapist; experience in Pulmonary Function, preferred.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner, Registered Respiratory Therapist required, Certified and/or Pulmonary Function Technologist preferred.
  • Skills: Competent in the basic operation and application of pulmonary function and basic respiratory care equipment, excellent oral and written communication, ability to communicate with patients, families, physicians, and other team members, ability to work under stressful conditions, excellent interpersonal skills, computer literacy.
