Position Overview:

The role of the Exercise Physiologist involves the assessment and evaluation of patients' therapeutic, fitness, health behaviors, and sports performance exercise requirements. This may encompass advanced diagnostic testing methods. The professional collaborates with patients and clients to formulate rehabilitation programs aimed at achieving health, fitness, and sports performance objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations for new patients to ascertain therapy and treatment necessities, aiding in the establishment of improvement targets. In cases of additional health complications, referrals to a senior Exercise Physiologist may be necessary.
  • Administer submaximal treadmill stress assessments.
  • Guide patients through prescribed therapeutic exercise routines.
  • Modify exercise programs as needed to support patients in reaching their improvement goals.
  • Accurately interpret EKGs and other diagnostic assessments.
  • Provide foundational education to patients regarding exercise programs, health requirements, and associated risks.
  • Maintain thorough documentation, including evaluation reports and discharge summaries.
  • Ensure the cleanliness, maintenance, and inspection of exercise equipment, reporting any repair needs.
  • Coordinate with other healthcare providers to guarantee continuous and effective patient care.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Complete assignments accurately and punctually as directed by management.
  • Arrive at work as scheduled.
  • Engage in the evaluation of current practices, enhancing program effectiveness, and developing new procedures to improve patient care.
  • Stay informed about advancements in the field and industry trends.
  • Evaluate new patients to determine their therapy and exercise program needs.
  • Administer diagnostic stress tests and health risk assessments, monitoring patient responses.
  • Designs exercise programs that effectively address both short-term and long-term patient goals.
  • Assist patients with their prescribed therapeutic and fitness-related exercises.
  • Thoroughly informs patients about their exercise regimen, health needs, and potential risks.
  • May provide mentorship and training as required.
  • Oversee student interns as assigned by senior Exercise Physiologists.
  • May offer community fitness, health, and athletic performance training.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
  • Understanding of exercise prescription and safe cardiovascular training techniques.
  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • One year of clinical experience in a hospital environment, with successful completion of the EP EKG competency test.
  • If working in a wellness context, an advanced health and wellness certification and one year of experience with special populations is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ACLS certification required prior to being eligible to supervise a stress test.
  • If in a sports performance environment, ACSM-CCEP or NSCA-CSCS certification is required within six months of hire.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform tasks involving carrying, hearing, lifting, manual dexterity, pulling/pushing, seeing, speaking, and squatting/kneeling.
