Position Summary

The Lead Preschool Educator is entrusted with ensuring the safety and well-being of children within the preschool environment. This role involves taking charge of the planning and execution of daily activities for the children in care. The Lead Educator collaborates with assistant teachers to create a nurturing and developmentally appropriate setting that meets the needs of children and fosters their growth across all developmental areas.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and assess developmentally suitable early education programs in partnership with the teaching team to ensure adherence to the curriculum.
  • Establish and maintain professional, positive relationships with children, families, agency personnel, visitors, and the community.
  • Demonstrate a supportive and caring attitude to connect sensitively with children, families, and staff.
  • Create a welcoming, organized, and culturally responsive classroom environment that sets high expectations for children.
  • Maintain constant awareness of and responsibility for the ongoing activities of all children in the classroom.
  • Utilize effective classroom management strategies to foster positive interactions between students and teachers.
  • Develop and execute weekly lesson plans that align with the curriculum and encompass all aspects of the school day.
  • Engage actively with children through conversation and play, ensuring interactions are developmentally appropriate.
  • Monitor and assess children's development regularly, sharing findings with families and addressing any developmental concerns.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, providing regular updates regarding their children's progress.
  • Utilize available resources to tailor teaching methods and modify the environment to meet individual children's needs.
  • Complete necessary documentation in a timely manner as per regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in meetings as directed by the Program Administrator.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through training and conferences.
  • Adhere to all relevant state regulations and agency policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Administrator.
Qualifications:

Must fulfill OCFS Daycare Licensing Head of Group criteria:
  1. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field, OR
  2. A CDA (Child Development Associate Credential) or equivalent recognized credential, along with 1 year of relevant experience, OR
  3. 9 college credits in Early Childhood Education or a related field, along with 2 years of relevant experience, WITH a plan to obtain CDA or an Associate's/Bachelor's degree (plan must be submitted and updated yearly).
  • Ability to present with warmth, nurturing, and kindness is essential.
  • Strong understanding of child development is required.
  • Experience working with preschool-aged children is necessary.
  • Familiarity with OCFS Daycare regulations is advantageous.
Essential Job Skills:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Capability to sit, squat, crouch, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to reach overhead as needed.
  • Willingness to navigate stairs multiple times throughout the day.
