Position Overview

The Electrical Engineer in R&D is tasked with the design and development of control systems for novel automated material handling equipment and systems. This role involves the creation of concepts, algorithms, and schematics for material handling machinery. The Electrical Engineer will collaborate with a development team comprising mechanical and electrical engineers to design and develop comprehensive mechatronic prototypes and systems. This position requires expertise in overall control system architecture, network design, electrical design, and power distribution. The engineer will be responsible for programming machine control code (PLC, IPC) and producing electrical schematics. Additionally, the Electrical Engineer will engage in the company's New Product Development process to define requirements, draft specifications, and create engineering estimates and documentation to support risk assessments, testing reports, equipment certifications, commissioning procedures, troubleshooting, and training. They will also assist production and deployment teams to ensure a seamless transition of new products from prototype to production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exemplify leadership in alignment with Aegis' Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
  • Investigate and assess new electrical control devices and technologies.
  • Specify electrical hardware and control devices based on application needs, including PLC hardware components, IO modules, servo, and VFD controllers.
  • Familiarity with distributed control solutions utilizing widely accepted IO networks such as Ethernet IP, ProfiNet, Sercos, and IO link.
  • Lead the design of comprehensive control solutions for complex automated systems.
  • Utilize kinematic equations of motion to formulate material handling algorithms and timing parameters for controls.
  • Develop and implement machine control software on platforms such as Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens, and others.
  • Design electrical control panels for R&D projects using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Create detailed documentation for the transition of R&D products to production and deployment teams.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of customer operations and specifications.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with R&D team members to achieve project objectives.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and the ability to design and develop next-generation products with minimal oversight.
  • Comprehend complex systems and processes at a high level of detail.
  • Meet deadlines while ensuring accuracy and adherence to budget and schedule.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers through instruction and example.
  • Willingness to travel (less than 25%).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial automation.
  • Expertise in Rockwell, Schneider, or Siemens industrial control products.
  • Experience troubleshooting 460 VAC and 24 VDC control systems using tools such as multi-meters and oscilloscopes.
  • Familiarity with LEAN and/or AGILE methodologies is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical.
