Overview:

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:


Under the guidance of the Principal Investigator or their delegate, the Research Project Coordinator I is tasked with executing various intricate research protocols for initiatives that explore the nexus between legal environments (forensic/justice) and mental health (behavioral health and/or substance use).

This role will involve performing research-related activities for federally and state-funded projects within the Law & Psychiatry Program at the Implementation Science and Practice Advances Research Center (iSPARC). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coding and inputting primary and secondary data, participating in meetings with community stakeholders from diverse legal environments, and conducting thorough literature reviews and summaries.

We are particularly interested in candidates for the Research Project Coordinator I position who possess training, coursework, or a demonstrated interest in risk assessment and screening, implementation science, and systemic disparities affecting marginalized groups (e.g., race/ethnicity).

The ideal candidate will be self-driven, personable, and comfortable engaging with individuals involved in (e.g., law enforcement personnel, parole board members, correctional staff) or affected by (e.g., pretrial defendants, incarcerated individuals, reentry populations) the criminal justice system.


Responsibilities:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with researchers in the design, development, and documentation of data collection instruments, surveys, and other research materials.

Oversee aspects of the formulation of research recommendations and the design of research initiatives.

Engage in the grant writing, manuscript preparation, and Institutional Review Board processes.

Develop a comprehensive research strategy for conducting community surveys.

Execute in-person or telephonic field research.

Supervise the selection and randomization of study participants.

Coordinate the data collection process for study participants, complete case report forms, and create and maintain spreadsheets.

Gather and manage questionnaires and other data forms from study participants.

Conduct literature searches and produce detailed written summaries of findings.

Collaborate with other project leaders on data presentation, interpretation, and the writing of scientific reports.

Establish and maintain computerized data files for all collected data.

May assist with budgetary and operational aspects of grant and contract proposals.

Prepare summary reports and ongoing project evaluations for researchers.

May assist in recruiting, selecting, supervising, and directing the activities of data collection staff and Research Technicians.

Conduct quality control checks on field data collection systems.

Collaborate with other research sites to ensure consistency and accuracy in documentation.

Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in a scientific field, healthcare, or equivalent experience.

1 year of relevant experience.

Proficiency in using computer-based tools (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills are essential.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator or their delegate.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May supervise and direct the activities of data collection staff and Research Technicians.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Typical office environment, laboratory, medical, surgical, and off-campus study sites.

Additional Information:
Additional Information/Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Psychology, or a related social science or humanities discipline.

Some research experience in criminal justice settings preferred but not required.

Familiarity with statistical analysis software (SPSS, Stata, R, etc.) is advantageous.

Off-site travel to meetings at various levels of the criminal justice system may be necessary.
