Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Construction Inspector II to join our Public Works' Environmental Quality Services team. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with the City's Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Management Ordinances (MS4).

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with contractors, developers, and builders to conduct routine Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) inspections for properties under construction.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff from Public Works, Development and Permits, and the VA Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to coordinate Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Ordinance and Virginia Stormwater Management Program enforcement.
  • Investigate citizen complaints into Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Violations.
  • Prepare and maintain database reports and records such as erosion and sediment control routine inspection forms and SWPPP inspections records.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An Associate's degree, vocational technical degree, or any equivalent combination of education and experience in civil engineering, environmental engineering, environmental science, or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
  • A valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City policies.
  • Certification as a Dual Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Inspector within 12 months of employment.
