Job Overview

The City of Chesapeake is seeking a dedicated professional to provide environmental compliance oversight in relation to Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Management regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine inspections of Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) for construction sites.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with personnel from Public Works, Development and Permits, and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with City departments to achieve objectives, share information, and enforce Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater regulations.
  • Address and investigate public complaints regarding Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater violations.
  • Prepare and manage records and reports, including routine inspection forms and SWPPP documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

Educational Requirements: An Associate's degree, vocational technical degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in civil engineering, environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field is required.

Experience Requirements: A minimum of two years of relevant, full-time experience is necessary in addition to the educational qualifications.

Certifications: A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required. Certification as a Dual Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Inspector must be obtained within the first year of employment.

Additional Requirements: Employees may be required to work beyond their regular hours in response to departmental needs or city-wide emergencies.
