Job Title: Police Officer

Join the City of Hayward Police Department as a Police Officer and be part of a team dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our community. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for enforcing laws and ordinances, working closely with the community to preserve the peace and promote public safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patrol assigned areas on foot or in a patrol vehicle, making routine security checks and keeping alert to discover suspect circumstances or persons.
  • Respond to radio and telephone dispatches, appearing at scenes of disorder or crime.
  • Resolve disputes, admonish individuals, respond to accidents, and provide emergency first aid.
  • Arrest and cite violators of laws and ordinances.
  • Investigate calls and complaints, prepare and document cases, and testify in court.
  • Write citations, investigate conditions hazardous to life or property, and coordinate crime scene control.
  • Assist detectives and other investigators in crime investigation, watch for suspicious cars, curfew violators, and wanted persons.
  • Operate two-way radio equipment, take fingerprints and photographs, and process evidence.
  • Assist in booking and jailing prisoners, process and transport prisoners, and direct traffic.
  • Question suspects and witnesses, provide information, directions, and other services and assistance to the public.
Requirements:
  • One year of experience in a law enforcement agency within the last 36 months and possession of a current Basic California P.O.S.T Certificate.
  • Currently employed by a law enforcement agency and have successfully passed a field training officer (FTO) program, but have yet to complete probation.
  • Successful completion of a California Basic P.O.S.T approved academy certificate obtained within the past 18 months from date of application is desirable.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Possession of an Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is desirable.
Working Conditions:

Essential duties require the mental and/or physical ability to work in a standard office environment and use standard office equipment and current software, work in a field environment in various weather conditions, grasp, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to prepare documents and data using a computer keyboard and mouse/trackball, sit for prolonged periods of time, walk, stand, crouch, reach, twist, turn, kneel, bend, squat, stoop, run, and safely lift and move equipment and material weighing up to 45 pounds.
