As a Lead Research Engineer at Thomson Reuters Labs, you will join a global team of interdisciplinary experts. We recruit engineers and specialists across various AI research domains to propel the company's digital evolution. The fields of AI science and engineering are rapidly advancing. We seek an adaptable learner who can think algorithmically and is enthusiastic about acquiring and honing new skills as required; someone who is comfortable navigating new challenges and enjoys guiding and supporting the contributions of others.

About the Role:
In this position as a Lead Research Engineer, you will:
  • Develop and Deliver: Utilizing modern software development methodologies, you will engage in the complete software development lifecycle, crafting, testing, and delivering high-quality solutions.
  • Create Scalable ML Solutions: You will design extensive data processing frameworks to assist researchers in developing and training innovative machine learning algorithms. You will construct high-performing scalable systems suitable for large online delivery contexts.
  • Collaborate Effectively: In a team-oriented environment, you will share insights, appreciate diverse perspectives, and partner with cross-functional and remote teams.
  • Embrace Agility: With a strong sense of urgency and a desire to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic setting, you will provide timely solutions.
  • Foster Innovation: You are encouraged to explore new methodologies and learn emerging technologies. You will contribute creative ideas, devise solutions, and take responsibility for comprehensive deliveries.

About You:
You are a suitable candidate for the Lead Research Engineer role if your background includes:

Essential skills & experience:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience working on a Machine Learning-related product or solution.
  • A profound understanding of Python software development frameworks and ecosystems.
  • Proven ability to write clean, reusable, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • A strong desire to learn and adapt to new and emerging technologies.
  • Ability to collaborate, communicate effectively, and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A keen interest in real-world applications and their impact.
  • Experience with cloud computing development.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD, DevOps, and SDLC concepts in application development.
Preferred skills & experience:
  • Experience integrating Machine Learning solutions into production-grade software with an understanding of ModelOps and MLOps principles.
  • Exposure to Natural Language Processing (NLP) challenges and familiarity with key tasks such as Named Entity Recognition (NER), Information Extraction, and Information Retrieval.
  • Ability to understand and translate between the languages and methodologies used in both research and engineering domains.
  • Knowledge of automation, system monitoring, and cloud-native applications, with familiarity in AWS or Azure (or a similar cloud platform).
  • Hands-on experience in other programming or scripting languages and development stacks (Java, Rust, Scala, Typescript, etc.).
  • Experience building AI solutions with LLMs / ML APIs.
