As a Senior Research Engineer at Thomson Reuters Labs, you will join a global, multidisciplinary team of specialists. We recruit engineers and experts across various AI research domains to propel the company's digital evolution. The science and engineering of AI are rapidly advancing. About the Role:

In this position as a Senior Research Engineer, you will:
  • Exhibit Leadership: Offer technical guidance in collaboration with other engineers to enhance methodologies and advance the technology stack.
  • Design and Implement: Utilizing contemporary software development practices, you will engage in the complete software development lifecycle, constructing, testing, and delivering high-quality solutions.
  • Create Scalable ML Solutions: You will develop extensive data processing pipelines to assist researchers in building and training innovative machine learning algorithms. You will design high-performing scalable systems suitable for large online delivery contexts.
  • Collaborate Effectively: In a team-oriented environment, you will share insights, appreciate diverse perspectives, and partner with cross-functional and remote teams.
  • Embrace Agility: With a strong sense of urgency and a desire to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic setting, you will deliver timely solutions.

About You:

You are an ideal candidate for the Senior Research Engineer role if your background includes:

Essential skills & experience:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in software engineering.
  • At least 3 years of experience working on a Machine Learning-related product or solution.
  • Experience in building end-to-end ML projects, including deployment and performance metrics.
  • Experience leading technical workstreams within a software engineering environment.
  • Proficiency and a comprehensive understanding of Python software development stacks and ecosystems.
  • Ability to comprehend, apply, integrate, and deploy Machine Learning capabilities and techniques into various systems.
  • Familiarity with the Python data science stack, including libraries such as Numpy, Scipy, Pandas, Dask, spaCy, NLTK, and scikit-learn.
  • A commitment to writing clean, reusable, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • Demonstrated expertise in automation, system monitoring, and cloud-native applications, with knowledge of AWS or Azure (or a similar cloud platform).
  • Competence in system analysis and design, considering DevOps and automation as fundamental components of your work.
  • A willingness to learn and embrace new and emerging technologies.
  • Familiarity with probabilistic models and an understanding of the mathematical principles underlying machine learning methods.
  • Experience in leading and/or mentoring teams.
  • Experience providing guidance to overcome challenges for the team.
  • Experience updating internal stakeholders.
Preferred skills & experience:
  • Experience integrating Machine Learning solutions into production-grade software with a solid understanding of ModelOps and MLOps principles, capable of translating between languages and methodologies used in both research and engineering domains.
  • Previous exposure to Natural Language Processing (NLP) challenges and familiarity with key tasks such as Named Entity Recognition (NER), Information Extraction, and Information Retrieval.
  • Proven success in taking and integrating Machine Learning solutions into production-grade software.
  • Hands-on experience with other programming and scripting languages (Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, etc.).
