Program Objectives- Strengthen leadership and decision-making skills

Student mentor - Dr. Beverley Rilett
Alabama Authors of the 19th and 20th Centuries is a digital project sponsored by Auburn University Libraries that helps to fulfill the university's mission to promote Alabama to the world.
Launched in 2023, this project exemplifies digital humanities scholarship and provides an essential resource for researchers of Southern literature. We are currently in the process of developing a comprehensive literary map of Alabama using QGIS, the geospatial open source software.
The undergraduate selected for this project will work with an interdisciplinary team of humanities and computer science graduate and undergraduate researchers to collect and visualize data, develop the website, and present the project at the AU Undergraduate Research Symposium in November 2024.
Student Responsibilities- Enhance proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat, Omeka, and QGIS
- Assist in the development of a geospatial data visualization
- Work independently and in collaboration with an interdisciplinary research team
- Maintain weekly logs and progress reports
- Attend weekly meetings with faculty mentor Dr. Beverley Rilett for guidance and support
- Develop digital literacy in website development, data analysis, and geospatial programming
- Acquire project management skills
- Foster effective team collaboration and communication skills
- Enhance research presentation skills
- Currently enrolled Auburn University undergraduate student
- 3.0 GPA or higher
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of independent work
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, and Excel skills
- Must be able to multi-task, meet deadlines and maintain a high-level professionalism
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
One-academic year program (Fall and Spring)
Pay Rate$15.00/hour
Work HoursEach fellow will be expected to contribute up to 10 hours per week to the project.
