Job Overview

Essential Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED Certificate required.

Specialized vocational training in surveying.

Possession of a Land Surveyor License in Arizona, New Mexico, and/or Utah is mandatory; CFEDS License is a plus.

A minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of Surveying or Legal Surveying.

Proficient in interpreting design and construction standards, with the ability to identify features in the field.

Must hold a valid Driver's License, subject to motor vehicle record evaluation.


Key Responsibilities:

Establishes methods and procedures for setting up or reestablishing survey control and ensuring the precision of all surveys conducted for the Authority.

Collaborates with engineering teams, clients, and stakeholders involved in projects.

Maintains comprehensive notes, sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys to accurately document and certify survey work.

Confirms the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations at survey sites, while assuming legal responsibility for the survey work conducted under the Authority's jurisdiction and in compliance with the laws of the Navajo Nation.

Leads or performs surveys to define legal boundaries for properties based on legal deeds, easements, and withdrawals.

Records survey results, including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.

Calculates heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other terrain characteristics.

Oversees the preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents associated with surveys.

Drafts descriptions of property boundary surveys for inclusion in deeds, leases, or other legal documents.

Plans and executes ground surveys aimed at establishing baselines, elevations, and other geodetic measurements.

Researches legal records, survey records, and land withdrawals to gather information about property boundaries in areas designated for surveying.

Adjusts surveying instruments to ensure their accuracy.

Establishes fixed points for mapping purposes using geodetic and engineering instruments.

Determines longitudes and latitudes of significant features and boundaries in survey areas utilizing theodolites, transits, levels, and satellite-based GPS.

Trains personnel and supervises their activities in conducting surveys or drafting maps.

Analyzes survey objectives and specifications to prepare survey proposals or guide others in proposal preparation.

Computes geodetic measurements and interprets survey data to ascertain positions, shapes, and elevations of geomorphic and topographic features.

Develops criteria for survey methodologies and procedures.

Creates specifications for the design and modification of survey instruments.

Conducts research on surveying and mapping techniques.

May utilize aerial surveys of specified geographical areas when available.

Specifies requirements for photographic equipment for aerial photography, including altitudes for terrain photography if necessary.

Directs one or more survey crews to complete assigned tasks.

Performs additional duties as assigned.
