Position Title: Land Surveying Specialist
Department: Operations
Reports To: Senior Project Manager or Operations Manager

The Land Surveying Specialist plays a crucial role within the Operations Department, tasked with managing boundary determinations, ensuring data integrity, precision, and thoroughness of land surveying initiatives. This position is essential for delivering precise land surveying services while upholding the highest industry standards and legal compliance.

The Specialist is responsible for examining all pertinent deed, title, and easement documentation relevant to specific projects, ensuring that adequate information is gathered to resolve any boundary-related issues. Additionally, they coordinate and assess all field operations to guarantee that field teams collect all necessary evidence to complete the project, followed by verifying the data once it has been gathered and processed.

In this role, the Specialist will oversee and finalize boundary locations (new or proposed) for projects, manage the adjustments or finalization of boundary lines, points, and monuments, and create or review the corresponding legal descriptions for any tracts or parcels.

In jurisdictions where aerial imagery, topographic data, survey reports, or other deliverables require review and endorsement by a Professional Land Surveyor, the Specialist will also supervise and evaluate these items to ensure data quality, accuracy, and completeness.

Upon reviewing and validating the land survey outputs, the Specialist may be called upon to sign and seal these documents as final deliverables to clients.

Key Responsibilities

Land Surveying and Geospatial Data Collection
  • Coordinate and supervise land surveys, boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and other specialized surveying tasks.
  • Oversee the application of advanced surveying instruments and technologies to gather data with high precision.
  • Analyze and interpret survey data to produce accurate maps, plats, and reports.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure that land surveying operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards.
  • Verify property boundaries, legal descriptions, and easements to maintain legal adherence.
  • Provide expert testimony in legal proceedings related to land boundaries and disputes.
Project Leadership
  • Collaborate with surveying teams and field crews in executing surveys and data collection.
  • Work alongside Project Managers to plan, implement, and finalize surveying projects.
  • Review project specifications, scope, and timelines to align with client expectations.
Quality Assurance
  • Implement quality assurance measures to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of survey data.
  • Examine survey results, data, and reports to confirm compliance with industry standards and legal requirements.
  • Identify and rectify discrepancies in survey data and documentation.
Mentoring and Development
  • Provide guidance and training to junior surveying personnel, including surveyors-in-training.
  • Encourage a culture of professional growth and continuous learning within the surveying team.
Qualifications
  • Registered as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) and licensed in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • At least two years of experience in land surveying and boundary determination.
  • Proficient in utilizing advanced surveying instruments, GIS, and CAD software.
  • Strong understanding of local, state, and federal surveying laws and regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and committed to quality and accuracy.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
The Land Surveying Specialist may operate in both field and office environments, overseeing surveying projects and collaborating with project teams. This role may involve outdoor work in various weather conditions and occasional travel to project sites.
