Essential Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Specialized vocational training in surveying.

Land Surveyor License is mandatory in Arizona, New Mexico, and/or Utah. CFEDS License is an advantage.

A minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of Surveying/Legal Surveying.

Proficient in interpreting design and construction guidelines; adept at identifying features in the field.

Possession of a valid Driver's License (subject to review of motor vehicle record).


Key Responsibilities:

Establishes methods and procedures for creating or re-establishing survey control and ensuring the precision of all surveys conducted for the Authority.

Collaborates with engineering teams, clients, and other stakeholders involved in projects.

Maintains comprehensive records, including notes, sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys to accurately document and certify survey work.

Confirms the precision of survey data, including measurements and calculations at survey locations, and assumes legal accountability for the survey work in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Navajo Nation.

Conducts surveys to determine legal boundaries for properties based on legal deeds, easements, and withdrawals.

Documents survey results, including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.

Calculates heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other terrain characteristics.

Oversees the preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys.

Drafts descriptions of property boundary surveys for use in legal documents such as deeds and leases.

Plans and executes ground surveys aimed at establishing baselines, elevations, and other geodetic measurements.

Researches legal and survey records to gather information about property boundaries in survey areas.

Adjusts surveying instruments to maintain their accuracy.

Establishes fixed points for mapping purposes using geodetic and engineering instruments.

Determines longitudes and latitudes of significant features and boundaries in survey areas using various surveying tools.

Trains personnel and supervises their work in conducting surveys or drafting maps.

Analyzes survey objectives and specifications to prepare proposals or guide others in proposal preparation.

Computes geodetic measurements and interprets survey data to ascertain positions, shapes, and elevations of geomorphic and topographic features.

Develops criteria for survey methodologies and procedures.

Creates specifications for the design and modification of survey instruments.

Conducts research in innovative surveying and mapping techniques.

May utilize aerial surveys of designated geographical areas, if available.

Specifies requirements for photographic equipment used in aerial photography, including altitudes for terrain photography, if necessary.

Directs one or more survey teams to complete assigned tasks.

Performs additional duties as required.
