Key Responsibilities
The Automation Engineer will be responsible for the following:

  • Participate in project handover meetings with sales and project teams.
  • Design and develop building automation systems, preparing project submittals based on specifications and plans.
  • Identify project ambiguities and submit Requests for Information (RFIs) as necessary.
  • Select and procure controllers and devices essential for project execution.
  • Create detailed sequences of operations and develop logic block programming for Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems.
  • Conduct testing of controllers, verifying program functionality and ensuring proper input/output operations.
  • Collaborate with the graphics department to build user-friendly graphical interfaces.
  • Revise project submittals based on field markups for accurate owner records.
  • Oversee commissioning and testing protocols to ensure system integrity.
  • Provide training to facility owners and operators on system functionalities.
  • Maintain backups of DDC systems and all relevant project documentation.
  • Foster strong relationships with both new and existing clients.
  • Report critical issues to the Engineering Manager or Project Manager, offering recommendations for resolution.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by company needs.

Qualifications
Preferred education and experience include:

  • An Associate's degree in a relevant engineering or technology field is required; a Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering is preferred.
  • Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, particularly with DDC-specific training and five or more years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with the construction industry and contract documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of low voltage electrical wiring and HVAC systems.
  • Understanding of commercial electrical fundamentals, HVAC, and control theory.
  • Experience with DDC or PLC design and programming is preferred.

Technical Skills
Proficiency in the following is essential:

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • AutoCAD, Visio, and other relevant technical or construction software.
  • Computer and building architecture networks.
  • Integration of third-party equipment using protocols such as BACnet/Modbus.
  • Programming skills are required; experience with graphical block programming is a plus.
