Position Overview:

We are seeking a Safety Systems Engineer to join our Product Engineering division. This role is pivotal within our functional safety team, where you will leverage your expertise in safety standards to develop, implement, and verify safety-related work products in compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead cross-functional teams in understanding and applying the ISO 26262 standard through our established processes.
  2. Formulate safety requirements for suppliers and assist in procurement activities to ensure compliance with safety concepts.
  3. Oversee the creation of Functional Safety design and analysis documentation, including Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments (HARAs), Functional Safety Requirements (FSRs), Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs), Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEAs), and Fault Tree Analyses (FTAs).
  4. Conduct verification reviews of functional safety documentation to ensure adherence to standards and confirm that all requirements are met.
  5. Represent the organization in Functional Safety discussions with both internal and external stakeholders.
  6. Gather safety requirements and strategies from clients to inform product development initiatives.
  7. Provide updates on the status of functional safety projects to management.
  8. Identify and pursue opportunities for process enhancements.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Over 10 years of experience in developing embedded control systems in hardware, software, or systems roles.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in functional safety, specifically with ISO 26262 or similar standards.
  • Proficient in documenting clear and concise safety requirements, concepts, and designs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with internal teams, clients, and suppliers.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Preferred:

  • Certification in ISO 26262 (FSCAE, FSCP, etc.).
  • Experience with Medini Analyze.
  • Familiarity with ASPICE or similar development standards throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow.
  • Background in embedded software development.
  • Knowledge of Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools such as Polarion, DOORS, or PTC Integrity for managing changes, requirements, and verification activities.
  • Understanding of vehicle communication protocols (e.g., CAN, LIN).
  • Experience with powertrain, engine, or vehicle control systems, particularly in heavy-duty applications.
  • Familiarity with systems, hardware, or software for electric vehicles.

Education:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

Preferred: Master’s degree in Engineering.
